Cool Cascade – Smoky Mountain National Park

I found this really cool cascade driving along one morning on the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail, just outside of Gatlinburg, TN. It was really early and very cloudy so I was able to shoot a long exposure without putting my ND filter on. I climbed down into the water to get a nice vantage point and then set my camera to expose for 20 seconds at f/16. The water was nice and silky and the surrounding land around it wasn’t underexposed. Overall I was very pleased.
I hope everyone has a good day.
The Sinks – Great Smoky Mountains National Park

I’m just getting back from my vacation in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. It was an excellent time, other than the rain. There were things I didn’t get to do because of the weather, but the upside is the rivers and streams were flowing fast and full. I spent a lot of my trip wading in the water to work on my “slow water” shots. Not something I had a lot of chance to do in Florida.
This was taken at a place called The Sinks about 1/2 between Cades Cove and Gatlinburg. It’s more of a large cascade than a waterfall, but a very cool spot none the less. I wish I had been brave enough to get down to river level like some of the teenagers, but then again they were not carrying a backpack and camera.
